Sparc Systems Limited have launched a Data Centre at its offices in Lilongwe, marking the 4th episode of Think Tech Thursday a monthly initiative focusing on showcasing innovative enterprise ICT solutions across their country offices.
The Data Centre will be serving Colocation Services, Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) which are scalable compute, storage and networking on demand as well as Software as a Service (SaaS) which are managed application with guaranteed uptime performance.
Wisely Phiri Executive Director at Sparc Systems Limited says as the country is striving to be self-sustaning in innovations there is need for everyone to take initiatives that are creating digital economy. "So for us creating the data centre is like we have created the space whereby the cost of hosting data should be way cheap to both big and small enterprises and even for the Government," he said.
He added that as a data centre they are also looking at hosting data for entities from outside the country and they have already been exporting their services working with countries like Zambia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Mozambique. Paul Kanthambi data manager at E-Government says Sparc Systems are making strides in complementing government efforts for Malawi to attain the status that is driven by the data.
Andrew Kamwendo General Manager at ICT Association of Malawi said the coming in of Data Centre is a great milestone in creating strong security on digital products, and Malawi needs to advocate more on ICT services exportation for growth of country's economy.
"This development reflects a forward looking approach that will contribute meaningfully to the digital transformation, data sovereignty and economic growth," he said. Through software development, cyber security, systems integration, as well as end user computing among others; the data centre will be hosting information from financial institutions, telecommunications networks, Government as well as Small Medium Enterprises.
